The series' secret weapon, however, is its comedy, which is understated and effective. It gives us a little Xena, Warrior Princess nudge in the ribs, implying that we shouldn't take all the poker faces too seriously. But unlike Xena (which also was filmed on location in New Zealand), The Dead Lands isn't interested in full-frontal camp. It prefers to punctuate a scene of heavy exposition with a joke, swirling a little tonal color into the narrative — and it works nicely. Sex and Skin: None. Parting Shot: A towering crane/drone shot as Waka and Mehe walk a determined path through the wilderness. Sleeper Star: As Waka's dead mom, Haughton gives us a serious eat-your-vegetables/wear-your-coat-it's-cold/commit-ritual-murder-in-the-name-of-dubious-religious-tradition finger-wagging vibe. But somehow I doubt Mother knows best in this situation, as she's obviously not woke enough to realize the series is better with a strong female co-lead. Most Pilot-y Line: "It's a good hole! " Waka says to Mehe, and I'll drain all the fun from the quote by contextualizing it: She's appropriated a shelter he once dug, and he suggests she stay there — until he realizes she may be the key to restoring his honor, of course.

Instead of eliminating these hunters himself, William decides to acquire a little girl (possibly by kidnapping), and then trains her (over the course of several years) to hunt the hunters. Veronica (Abigail Breslin) is the unlucky little girl in training. When Veronica graduates from vigilante school, she engages the hunters... and the violence begins. Unfortunately the deaths are extremely weak, making the ultimate climax feel immensely pathetic. The acting is atrocious in this movie, even by quality actors like Bentley and Breslin. The script is probably to blame, since it's so poorly written, and perhaps the director is guilty too (for not managing the actors better). I watched the whole film, just to see how bad things could get.
So the XP Megablitz (a. k. a. Refined Palate) and the regular XP Stage are going to be hanging around for a bit. From April 6-11, the standard XP Stage will be available for 4 days straight, and the XP Megablitz will show up each day at 12pm-1pm and 10pm-11pm. Megablitz gives you more XP per clear, but it takes longer to beat, and I can't guarantee a win with no items. Meanwhile, the standard XP Stage gives less per clear, but I can beat it easily and quickly. My problem might be that I'm not using the right team and/ or tactics to beat the Megablitz. Here's my cats: Treasures: All maxed out. Basic: All max at +30, except Eraser is at +25. (I'm gonna be hitting UR 2900 real soon, and several of those will be at +35.
