Lo peor: cierta ambigüedad de discurso. Puede parecer que 'Mientras seamos jóvenes' es la segunda película seguida de Noah Baumbach sobre la aceptación de la vida adulta, tras 'Frances Ha' (2012). Y en parte es eso, y en parte, no. Este es un film sobre otro tipo de aceptación: la tolerancia al relevo generacional. Por mucho que el personaje de Ben Stiller siga enamorado de la juventud (representada por la pareja molona que forman Adam Driver y Amanda Seyfried), no es un adulescente. Es un cuarentón con mucho ego que se resiste aceptar que hay personas más jóvenes que él en el trampolín del triunfo. Con unos gustos, unos valores éticos y unos criterios profesionales que no son los suyos y que, a la postre, envidia y desaprueba. Todo este discurso se estructura, como siempre en Noah Baumbach, con mucha gama de grises. La película incluirá una colleja a los hipsters aquí y un mohín de amonestación a los peterpanes allá, pero el tono general es comprensivo respecto a los diferentes modelos de vida e, incluso, tics generacionales que retrata.
