And a lot of her early story lines are hampered by her crush on … Mark Brendanawicz. If you haven't watched season one of Parks and Rec in a while, it's easy to forget just how much Mark Brendanawicz there was in the early days. And there is a lot. Watching these episodes now is like going back through old Gchats and discovering that you used to be super into some person you haven't thought of in years. Leslie's feelings for Brendanawicz motivate much of her season-one behavior, and the series isn't sure if they're going to have the kind of romance where each fixes the other's flaws, or if she's got an unhealthy obsession with him. This ambivalence extends to Mark himself. He's a womanizer, but the series doesn't celebrate or condemn him for it; the fact just kind of lies there alongside his dead ideals. It makes sense that Brendanawicz hasn't been heard from since season two — he doesn't make sense in the bright and zany Pawnee of latter-day Parks. Most of the other characters are slightly different, too.
EPISODE 2 Canvassing Leslie (Amy Poehler) and her committee go door-to-door to build support for her park project and recruit members for an upcoming town hall meeting, but their mission doesn''t go as smoothly as Leslie hopes. Meanwhile, Tom (Aziz Ansari) strays from the group and uses more questionable recruiting tactics. Rashida Jones, Chris Pratt, Paul Schneider, Aubrey Plaza and Nick Offerman also star. EPISODE 3 The Reporter When Leslie (Amy Poehler) invites a reporter to do a story on her park project, she and her committee have trouble staying on message. Leslie calls in Mark (Paul Schneider) to help save the story, but he only makes the situation worse. Meanwhile, Tom (Aziz Ansari) kisses up to his boss (Nick Offerman). EPISODE 4 Boy's Club Leslie (Amy Poehler) tries to make her way into the old boys club of politics by going to a casual get-together, but she quickly faces a tough ethical choice. The man is chosen based on some kind of IQ test, and maybe also a physical tournament, like a decathlon. And women are brought to him, he desires them. The Banquet [1. 5] [ edit] Leslie: In a town as old as Pawnee, there's a lot of history in every acre. This wooded area is the site of, um, the murder, actually, of Nathaniel Bixby Mark. He was a pioneer who was killed by a tribe of Wamapoke Indians after he traded them a baby for what is now Indianapolis.

If a comedy show can`t tackle this satirically, and instead rah rahs about how wonderful Obama and Hitlery Clinton are, it needs to avoid the topics altogether. But P&R did not and destroyed itself in the process. Season 5 might as well have been written by John McCain or some other Washington parasite. Indeed the ghastly McCain even makes an appearance in season 5, setting his stamp of death and decay on this ruined "comedy" show. If any poor Americans want an example of what real political satire looks like I recommend either the old BBC show Yes Minister or the movie Brazil. I would advise people to get the three first seasons of Parks and Recreation and then pretend it got cancelled, which in some ways it did since it`s not much of a comedy after this point. Seasons 1-3 I would rate a 9, season 4 a 5 and season 5 a 1. Watching beyond this point seems highly pointless. … Expand
